Bonnysu

Bonnysu is one of the family-owned business of the community of Tres Colinas de Potrero Grande, a rural community in southern Costa Rica, in the Potrero Grande District of Buenos Aires de Puntarenas, offering services for mountain tourism, relaxation, physical and mental activities.

Our small business is located 500 meters from La Amistad International Park (PILA), in the border zone of the protected area and is committed to community-based rural tourism, environmental awareness, sustainable development and environmental protection.

Participating in our program gives volunteers the opportunity to live unique experiences in a peaceful environment in harmony with nature, with professional service, taking care of every detail.

Minimum stay: Two weeks

Location: the program is developed in the community of Tres Colinas de Potrero Grande, Buenos Aires, Puntarenas. In the border area of La Amistad International Park.

Requirements:

  • Aged 18 or over.
  • Good physical condition.
  • Basic knowledge of Spanish.
  • You must be friendly, communicative and able to work in extreme weather conditions for 4-6 hours per day.
  • You must have a medical travel insurance policy for the duration of your stay.
  • It is important to like animals

About the work:

In this program you can contribute to the development of these rural small business in different ways. Bonnysu has the particularity that you can support in 2 sectors:

Activities at Tres Colinas de Potrero Grande

  • Landscaping (planting and maintenance of plants)
  • Making and maintenance of informative signs.
  • Attending to the kitchen area and cabins (cooking, preparing cabins).
  • Conformation of trails in Bonnysu Bosquecito (making of trails, benches, garden, gates, bleachers, railings, bird lookout)
  • Assistance in blackberry production (pruning of plants, harvesting and packing)
  • Assistance in social networks (photo editing, publications and customer service).

Activities at Pérez Zeledón

  • Assistance in plant and succulent nursery (fertilizing, care, repotting and planting of plants).
  • Assistance in Florist and art workshops (maintenance of storage, making containers, arrangements).
  • Assistance in bonsai nursery (maintenance, repotting of bonsais).
  • Assistance in social networks.

What about free time?

As a volunteer you will have two free days each week, during which you may choose to:

  • Participate in shooting star tours.
  • Bird watching.
  • Tours in La Amistad International Park (restrictions apply).
  • Art workshops.
  • Visit the beach.
  • Family activities.
  • Learning to make bonsai trees.

How much does it cost? 

Please see below the rates per person expressed in US dollars:

$315 per week

*This amount covers accommodation, three meals per day and training. It does not cover the arrival and departure costs to/from the project, nor tours and other expenses.

* Ask for the daily rates and rates for stays longer than 30 days.

Important note: 

There is no ATM in the area, so you should make sure that you bring enough cash for the duration of your stay. Only a few establishments accept credit or debit cards.

You will receive a confirmation email, along with a Volunteer Orientation manual with detailed information on transportation, what to bring and what to expect.
